How to Recover a Permanently Deleted Instagram Account in 2026 (Updated Guide)

Losing your Instagram account — whether accidentally or intentionally — can feel stressful, especially if it had years of content, followers, or business value.

The good news?
Instagram still retains deleted account data for up to 90 days, which means recovery may be possible if you act quickly.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through the updated 2025 recovery process, step by step.
If you want the easiest and guided way, you can also DM me “Recover IG” on Instagram, and my team will help you personally.

⚠️ Important: This method only works if your account was deleted within the last 90 days.

Step 1: Install an Older Version of Instagram (Android Only)

First, download an older version of the Instagram app.

  • This method only works on Android

  • iOS does not allow installing older app versions

Once installed, do not open the app yet.

Step 2: Change Your Phone’s Date & Time

Now go to your phone settings and:

  1. Disable Automatic Date & Time

  2. Set the date to a time when your Instagram account was still active

After changing the date:

  • Open Instagram

  • Try logging in using your old username and password

If you see “Account Not Found”, don’t panic — this is completely normal at this stage.

If this feels confusing, just DM me “Recover IG” and we’ll guide you step by step.

Step 3: Switch Back to the Latest Instagram Version

After testing login:

  • Uninstall the old Instagram version

  • Reinstall the latest Instagram app

  • Reset your phone’s date & time to automatic

This prepares your account for the next step.

Step 4: Submit Instagram’s Hacked Account Recovery Form

This is the most critical step.

Go to Instagram’s official hacked account recovery form and proceed as if:

Your account was hacked and deleted

  • Enter your username

  • Continue with the steps shown on screen

What to watch for:

  • ✅ If Instagram accepts your username, your chances of recovery are high

  • ❌ If it still shows “Account Not Found”, move to the final step

Step 5: Report the Problem from Another Instagram Account

If the hacked form doesn’t work, do this:

  1. Log in from another Instagram account

  2. Go to Profile → ☰ → Help → Report a Problem

  3. Select “Don’t include logs”

  4. Paste the recovery template (provided below)

Make sure to include:

  • Username of deleted account

  • Full name

  • Email ID linked to the account

  • Contact number

You may also attach government ID to improve recovery chances.

Important Note About Instagram Data (90-Day Rule)

Instagram stores deleted account data for up to 3 months (90 days) in its backend.

Best-case scenario:

  • Your account is fully restored

Worst-case scenario:

  • Instagram may provide a data export, including:

    • Posts

    • Stories

    • Messages

    • Account information

Either way, acting fast is critical.
